Left vs. Right Logo alignment
According to Nielsen ormancase study, it is found that logos aligned at the left top are remembered for a longer period as compared to the Right one. When users scan sites, their visual gaze leans toward the left though logos aligned at the right top are considered to be less remembered. A short case study to find out the outcomes of differently aligned logos.
I had compared 14 different Electronics; retail sites 5 with centred aligned logo 2 with top-right and 7 with left-top aligned logos . All of the logos were having clickable links to the homepage & none of the sites offered a text link to the homepage.
Within my 30 classmates, I had completed this survey and each of them intersected with every single site and were asked to complete 2 tasks.
1. We had asked them to select one item and add it to the shopping cart (this task began on the homepage).
2. We then requested them to return to the homepage and add more items to cart.
Study Findings
Our results show that, on sites with left logos, users are significantly more likely to navigate home in a single click than on sites with centred and right side aligned logos.
Comparing the failures to navigate in the two conditions, users were 6 times as likely to fail to navigate to the homepage in a single click when the site logo was centred versus left-aligned. As mentioned above, the ability to quickly return to the homepage is critical for users who become lost or simply want to switch to a different task or topic.
